Still with no car, we decided to take the Strassenbahn over to Heidelberg to explore its famous castle - Schloss Heidelberg. It was quite a climb to get up to the castle, but well worth it! It was built between 1400 and 1544. It is an enormous red-sandstone fortress and is undeniably picturesque. It is one of the most famous historic monuments in Germany. The kids loved it! I find it hard to comprehend that these were built so long ago! After we explored the schloss(castle) we walked along the haupstrasse ( a long, pedestrian street filled with shops and restaurants) until we found a great little place to have lunch. Only being in Germany for a few days, it was refreshing to have an English menu. Lunch was great and it was off to climb the bell tower of the old-gothic church on the west of the market square. The church was built around 1400. It was a very dizzying climb (the steps go up in a circle) but it had a beautiful view. We had a great day! A little shopping of course rounded out our exploration of nearby Heidelberg.

Hi everyone! Welcome to our web page! We are going to try to keep this updated weekly ( and by we - I mean ME) so if you are ever curious to know what Scott, the kids and I have been up to - just check the web page! We took our first trip soon after arriving in Deutchland. We took the streetcar, der strassenbahn, to Luisenpark in Mannheim. What a great day! The park itself was formed around the year 1900 and is considered one of the most beautiful parks in Europe. The park offers gondola rides, countless trails, water playground, aquarium, and even a castle playgroound! And the flowers! Wow! They love their flowergardens! We did pretty good riding the strass and getting off at the right stop to get us home. Germany - here we come!
